Fishing as a hobby is something that divides people’s opinion. Some find it to be therapeutic, productive and serene. Others find it to be monotonous, unhygienic and mindless. The latter, however, for sure have never heard of Saltwater fly fishing. Fly fishing, for starters, is different from other types of fishing. It is not about sitting on the bank of a water body and patiently waiting for fish to hook. It requires different skill sets and tools which are available in a saltwater fly fishing shop. Saltwater fly fishing is rather more like an active sport and requires total concentration from the practitioner. It requires practice, wit and a mindset for adventure. Here are some of the reasons why fly fishing can be a great hobby.

It’s great exercise!

Regular fishing is about serenity and relaxation. Fly Fishing, however, is not about that life. Some people would even consider it to be an extreme sport. Saltwater fly fishing requires practitioners to get into the flowing water, fight against the currents to get into the best position. They may have to wade around in the harsh stream, evading rocks and floating debris. The water bed can also be muddy or rocky, depending on the type of river or stream. Is there a more natural core workout in the world? Fly fishing requires one to use their strength and muscles to navigate the waters. All the wading, climbing and pushing around in resisting waters means a great accidental workout session.

Tactics and wit are required.

Fly fishing requires a lot more intelligence and knowledge than regular fishing. Catching any fish without at least some practice is impossible. Practitioners must also be knowledgeable about how rivers work. These include how the weather affects water bodies and how temperature can affect things. Breeding patterns of both fish and bugs need to be understood. The tools are also different, which are available in a saltwater fly fishing shop. Every decision needs to be thought through. The kind of bait to be used at a specific time of the day can differ all the time.  The way the fly flows down the stream is also a factor. All of it determines if there is going to be a catch or not. It can be hard but rewarding to do fly fishing.

It is affordable

Saltwater fly fishing is not an expensive elite hobby. A person, who is just getting into it, needs only a fly rod, the line, the leader and some flies.  There may be a need for some investment when one decides to go professional and takes it up seriously. These can include the price of a good set of gear and a more extensive collection of baits(or flies). It is, however, worth the effort and money for the satisfaction that it can provide. Moreover, fishing in the river doesn’t require a lease. The reward of an enormous trout is also very tempting.

It is the best way for ‘catch and releases fishing.

Catch and release fishing has been gaining a lot of steam in recent years. It is about catching the fish and releasing them back into the river. Fly fishing is the best way to practice catch and release. The baits used in fly fishing are the least damaging to fishes. The usage of barbless lures and flies makes it better for the fish and increases their survivability after release. Opt for fly fishing if ‘catch and release’ are going to be part of the plan.

Fly fishing can be a great hobby if one wants to feel adventurous while also being tactical and get some physical and mental exercise done in the process. It is for sure going to be fun for anyone who takes it up.
