What Online Programs are Like to Study

Elara Gill

In this modern day and age, we often look to technology to help us out and provide us with services we may never have had before, and that can include online programs.

The truth is, online learning has been getting way more recognition in the recent years and the hype is there for a reason.

If you are thinking about undertaking a program online, but you might be wondering what they are like, and if they are for you.  Read on to find out if beginning an online program is for you!

Students Can Work Independently Out of School Hours

They do not make students like they used to! Now it is common for students to have so many responsibilities and commitments on their plate, they might feel like studying is just a dream. With online learning, students are able to obtain a degree or higher education qualification independently, without having to work their life around school hours – which can be very difficult for some!

Point Park University Online offers a variety of programs that can be studied completely remotely, allowing those that need independence from a strict learning schedule to succeed and achieve their qualification.

Teachers Are Available Outside of Traditional Teaching Hours

Due to the flexibility that is offered when you study online, you will find that lecturers or online support are not confined to a time window of traditional office hours. Staff are available more readily at times that suit you. When you are part of in-person learning, you are able to ask questions immediately during lectures but it might be difficult to ask teachers questions outside of these hours. This is not an issue with online learning. With excellent time management skills, and getting things started early, support staff will almost always be on hand to help.

Students Can Take More Breaks When Needed

Breaks are extremely important for learning, as our brains can only manage to concentrate for 90 minutes up to 2 hours at a time. This will vary from person to person, and if you find that an hour is your limit, then it can be stressful to sit through a lecture and not be able to take anything else in. When you are learning online, you are able to set the pace yourself. So, if you have not had enough sleep, you are struggling to concentrate, or you have a last minute job pop up, then just being able to choose your hours with online studying can be beneficial.

Teaching is Varied for Learning Styles

Learning styles vary between students, and while some can understand procedures and information easily through explanation, other students thrive off demonstration. Some of this can be lost when you study online, but dedicated lecturers should be able to provide the correct learning support for each individual – whether that be with an informative lecture or demonstrative videos, and a good blend of the two should mean that you do not lose any information.
